EPS ICF modules function as both permanent formwork and integral insulation. Each unit consists of two expanded polystyrene panels joined by plastic webs; after rebar placement and concrete pouring, a monolithic reinforced wall is formed. The EPS remains in place, providing continuous thermal insulation (R-value ≥22 for a six-inch core) and an uninterrupted air barrier. Seismic performance is notably enhanced: the continuous concrete core with steel reinforcement creates a ductile shear wall capable of withstanding significant lateral forces. Fire resistance is equally refined-flame-retardant EPS, shielded by concrete cover, delivers up to four-hour fire ratings (ASTM E119) and self-extinguishes once the ignition source is removed. The system holds approvals on both sides of the Atlantic: North America (ICC-ES ESR-4123, IBC/IRC compliant, and ASTM E2634) and Europe (CE marking under EN 15288-1, meeting EN 13501-1). Key physical properties include EPS density of 20–30 kg/m³, compressive strength of 140–200 kPa, thermal conductivity of the EPS layer at 0.032–0.036 W/m·K, and water absorption below 3%. Compared with conventional wood framing, these modules reduce HVAC loads by up to 50%, offering a quiet marriage of structural efficiency and operational economy.
