Expandable polystyrene (EPS) possesses advantages such as low relative density (1.05 g/cm³), low thermal conductivity, low water absorption, impact and vibration resistance, heat insulation, sound insulation, moisture resistance, vibration damping, and excellent dielectric properties. It is widely used as shockproof packaging material for machinery, instruments, household appliances, handicrafts, and other fragile and valuable products, as well as for packaging fast food.

With the rapid development of the global economy, the amount of waste polystyrene foam is increasing daily. These waste polystyrene foams are lightweight and bulky, and their inherent characteristics of aging resistance and corrosion resistance make them a major challenge for waste disposal. In recent years, the recycling of expanded polystyrene has become one of the most pressing issues for the industry.
