Density
The density of expanded polystyrene (EPS) materials typically ranges from 15-35 kg/m³. Different densities have different effects on the material's properties. Generally, lower density results in better thermal insulation, but lower compressive strength and durability. Conversely, higher density leads to better strength and durability, but lower thermal insulation.
Thermal Conductivity
The thermal conductivity of EPS materials is typically between 0.03-0.04 W/m·K, indicating good thermal insulation performance. Lower thermal conductivity generally results in better thermal insulation.
Compressive Strength
The compressive strength of EPS materials depends on its density and structure. Generally, higher density results in higher compressive strength. The material's structure also affects compressive strength; sheet structures have better compressive strength than straight tube structures.
Coefficient of Thermal Expansion
The coefficient of thermal expansion of EPS materials is relatively small, generally between 9-15 × 10⁻⁶/℃. This makes the material ideal for thermal insulation in harsh environments such as high temperature and high humidity.
Moisture Absorption Rate
Expanded polystyrene foam has a very low moisture absorption rate, typically below 0.1%. This means that even in humid environments, the material's insulation performance will not be affected.
